WOW Neon is a fantastic medium. Most people have no idea how to use Neon lighting to form fantastic looking signage. ok so

What is neon?

Neon is the chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol Ne and atomic number 10. A colorless nearly inert noble gas, neon gives a distinct reddish glow when used in vacuum discharge tubes and neon lamps and is found in air in trace amounts.

(1) a colorless inert gaseous element comprising 0.0012 percent of normal air;
(2) a fluorescent, a color of ink or dye that is especially bright. A High illuminated visual effect.
– (Symbol Ne.) An inert gas that is the second member of the noble gas family, atomic number 10, atomic weight 20.183. It is a colorless, odorless, monatomic element found in the atmosphere to the extent of about 0.0018% by volume of dry air.
– Neon is the tenth element on the periodic table, and it is the first of the noble gases to have a full 8-electron orbital. Neon produces a reddish color on “neon” lights, and is completely inert, so it has no electronegativity. At STP, neon is gaseous and has a density of 0.900 g/L. Ne melts at 24.55 K and boils at 27.10 K. The atomic mass of Ne is 20.1797
– An inert element from Group O of the periodic table of chemical elements. Exists as a gas at normal temperatures and pressures. When ionized by current passing through it, as in neon signs, bulbs, pilot lights, test probes, etc, it produces a bright orange-red glow.
– A colorless odorless gaseous element that give a red glow in a vacuum tube; one of the six inert gasses; occurs in the air in small amounts

So now that you have a better understanding of the product, how do you use it in a commercial application? Neon is used in a major way in the USA and will continue too. It’s all about imagination. Picturing the creation before it’s produced and installed. The perfect neon sign is when no wiring is seen at all, it’s seamless.

The way we construct our neon signs is by creating the sign in a non-illuminated manner first. We then add the neon on top of the non-illuminated sign. The neon reflects off the back round units to form a crisp clean look. It increases the visual element of the logo or working. The units are normally individually bent and installed into the back round, holes are neatly drilled to ensure that the wiring is all in the back of the sign.

When making outdoor neon signs the natural elements have to be taken into account so this adds a much greater challenge. Metal work needs to allow for the neon tubing. Hail is a big factor that can cause neon to fail.    The design phase of the sign is equally as important as the actual manufacture itself. If the design is not correct the end result will not look great. Neon signs need the details to be worked out up-front. It’s not a cheap for of signage so the right methods should be used when designing the sign. We have 13 years of full on experience in working with neon.
